The Montessori Method of Education was developed over 115 years ago by Dr. Maria Montessori.
a highly hands-on approach to learning.
Montessori educators "follow” the child, adjusting their strategies and timelines to fit the development of each child, as all children learn at their own individual pace (alone, in a small group, one-on-one with the teacher, or with a peer).
Learning is enhanced with hands on materials available in the environment. All in a calm, supportive and relaxing environment where the children choose their work and build their skills at their own pace. Older aged children in the environment serve as role models to the younger children. Thereby, naturally encouraging the younger children to excel and advance their lessons.
The overall goal and outcome of a Montessori based education is the ability to think for oneself. We are not just teaching children facts and figures to me memorized, but helping them develop tools to think critically and learn on their own. This approach is becoming a much more critical component to educating children for an increasingly complex technological world where change occurs at rapid pace.
Today, it is still widely known as one of the most enduring and successful models. Across the country and across the globe, Montessori classrooms are changing lives everyday.
